Be an Amazing Wedding Guest – Here’s How!

Over the last 15+ years as a wedding planner, I have seen HORRIBLE wedding guests. I am actually attending a wedding in September as a wedding guest for the first time in FOREVER and I cannot wait! So in honor of my cousin Justin and his bride to be Shannon’s wedding, check out the best ways to be a great guest based on the messiness I’ve seen!!

  • RSVP promptly and communicate clearly.

- Respond to the wedding invitation as soon as possible, indicating whether you will attend or not.

- Clearly communicate any dietary restrictions, preferences, or special requirements you may have.

  • Dress appropriately:

- Follow the dress code mentioned on the invitation; if there isn't one, opt for attire that is respectful and suits the occasion.

- Avoid wearing WHITE, as it is traditionally reserved for the bride (cant tell me how many times this happens UGH).

- For formal weddings, men can wear a suit or tuxedo, while women can choose an elegant dress or gown.

  • Be punctual:

- Arrive at the wedding ceremony and reception on time or a few minutes early.

- Avoid leaving early unless there is an unavoidable circumstance.

- Respect the schedule and try to be present during important moments such as the exchange of vows and the first dance.

  • Engage and participate:

- Interact with other guests and participate in the wedding activities.

- Congratulate the couple and their families, and engage in polite conversation.

- Join in on the dancing, photo booths, or any other interactive elements the couple has arranged.

- If there are speeches or toasts, actively listen and show appreciation for the speakers.

5. Respect the couple's wishes:

- Follow any instructions or guidelines provided by the couple, such as unplugged ceremonies or social media restrictions.

- Avoid taking unauthorized photos during sensitive moments or using flash photography that might disturb the proceedings.

- Be mindful of any cultural or religious customs that may be observed and respect them accordingly.

Remember, being a great wedding guest is about celebrating the couple's and ensuring a positive experience for everyone around you. By following these suggestions you'll contribute to a memorable and joyous occasion for yourself and the happy couple!
