Tips for Writing your Wedding Vows

You both have worked so hard on the wedding reception with tons of individuality...why should your ceremony be any different? Not every couple chooses to write their vows...but if you want to and need some helps, check out these tips!

  • What's Your Style?

Do you want to recite separate vows or say an identical, all-encompassing vow that you compose together. You can also combine these options; take turns making personalized promises to each other, and then solemnize these statements by exchanging more formal, traditional vows.

  • What Makes a Good Vow?

Your vows should have these three features, in no particular order: a declaration of love; promises for your marriage and personal touches. Your words may be different, but the style should be the same. Be sure to keep vows one to three minutes long.

  • What Should You Say?

It depends on what you want to emphasize. Consider where you first met, the first time he kissed you…can you tie any of this in to what you want to pledge? You can be specific, even humorous, about the requirements you plan to fulfill throughout your lives together.

  • Consult a Pro

Your officiant, priest or rabbi can guide you through the process by directing you to resources. If you’re having a religious ceremony, he or she can help you write vows that pertain to your faith’s conventions, ideals and symbols.

  • The Big Performance

Don't forget to practice...but don’t overdo it—speak naturally. And if you become a little emotional it’s okay to cry!

Whatever you both write it should come from the heart and be meaningful and honest, these are the promises you will be fulfilling for the rest of your lives.

We hope these tips help make you a rockstar at writing your vows..as long as its form the heart that what matters!
