5 Wedding "rules" you don't have to follow!!
We often get so nervous and worried things won’t go well the closer our wedding day approaches. We fret things wont go as “planned” or well run out of time. Well what if we broke some of the “rules” that were often told we have to follow when it comes to our wedding.
Rule #1:Youcannot see your bride/groom before you walk down the aisle. If you're a traditional person you may not want to see your sweetheart before the ceremony... (you know the whole bad luck thing) However if you're all about breaking the rules then this is the perfect one for you. I even broke it at MY wedding! "First look" pictures are becoming popular as more couples want to attend their entire wedding and not just the reception- I mean you waited the entire planning process to see how beautiful the woman you're going to spend the rest of your life with looks on her special day-who would want to wait to ANY LONGER! This also makes it possible to take pictures not only with each other but with family members and friends. So think about it this way... the more pictures you take before the ceremony the more time you actually have to enjoy your wedding!
Rule #2: You must toss the bouquet and the garter. This rule you definitely can get away with it because you actually don't have to do either of these! Many couples these days are choosing to handover the bouquet to the couple in the room who has been married the longest... Plus it allows more time for dancing with your guests when you don’t have to stop for the bouquet toss and garter placement.
Rule #3: Someone must walk you down the aisle. If you want to take the trip alone you can take the trip alone! Brides don’t always have someone available to assist them down the aisle, and that is perfectly fine. This is your special day and the spotlight at all times should be on you... besides most aisles are narrow depending how beautiful and extravagant your dress is you might be the only person who fits down the aisle.
Rule #4: You need LOTS of bridesmaids and groomsmen This is simply not true! Your bridal party should always consist of the people you are closest with and that mean the most to you. And if your fiancé has more people than you that is totally OK as well because everyone is there for YOU. Many couples are opting to not have a wedding party at all and in some cases it may even be better!
Rule #5: There is a specific order that your reception must have. Why there are things that certainly need to be organized- parental dances, cake cutting, time for dancing - there is not a set order in which to do them.
If you want to follow a specific order by all means go for it! But always remember it's your day and your wedding so schedule whatever you want and whatever order you want it in. As you’re planning your BIG DAY, we hope you take the time to read through some of our quick and insightful “wedding rules” and we hope you find one or two that even YOU want to break!
